PRESS

The New York Times
“Movement and gesture take possession [in THROUGH YOU] of the viewer in a way that, for me at least, has never been replicated.”
➤ The New York Times
“The genre needs directors who are willing to look beneath the surface and to dream, as Lily Baldwin does in her adroit, wry short, A JUICE BOX AFTERNOON.”
The New York Times
“An extraordinary and scary short film by Lily Baldwin, whose work has a visceral power similar to [David] Cronenberg’s [THE BROOD], but with an anxious female perspective.”
TimeOut
"In this hypnotic film [SLEEPOVER LA] dance is used as a diaphanous storytelling tool, in which the dreamy narrative is at the service of the choreography; movement wafts through."
Vice
“In her films, Baldwin uses body movement and choreography to push the narrative.”
Short of the Week
“Editing, cinematography and music merge with dance to create a fully realized universe, filled with equal doses of longing, unease and wonder. Like Lynch, she understands that all of these tools are necessary to portray our complex inner lives."
Jump Cut Online
“An incredible central performance [in PARTHENON] by Lily Baldwin. This short is in two halves – the first is reminiscent of Madeline’s Madeline and makes for uncomfortable viewing, it is difficult to watch. The second half is amazing and focuses on the connection between an artist and model in a life-drawing class.”
Slant Magazine
“The centerpiece involves ritualistic dancing that inverts the meaning of the choreography...Baldwin uses long, intensely subjective takes, gradually dramatizing a body’s potential internal invasion as a collection of writhing figures that might mock the vulnerability the mother experiences as feeling newly secondary to her child [in SWALLOWED].”
Flux Magazine
“Other standouts demonstrated the power of minimal dialogue: the Fellini-chic SEA MEADOW by Lily Baldwin.”
Miami New Times
"Filmmaker Lily Baldwin breathes life into the thriller genre by using dance and pop mashups to investigate themes of identity, mortality, and memory."
